The Crate Project, a curatorial project initiated in the Fall of 2006
I have recently acquired eleven crates that were headed for the city dump. Instead of allowing them to consume more space in a landfill, reuse seemed to be in order. They, like almost all shipping crates for art works, were custom built. After that purpose has been fulfilled, they are disposed of. Rarely can they be recycled due to the glue, foam, and screws and staples used in their construction. These particular crates held Arts and Crafts Furniture that have toured the world.

They are now going to take on a new life through artist students at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. They will be transformed into a miniature golf course and then exhibited at the Beverly Arts Center Summer of 2007.
